SJSU history students receive scholarships
Six San Jose State University graduate students have been selected to receive scholarships from the Mildred Gentry Winters Endowment Fund.
The bequest from the estate of the late Emerita Professor Mildred Gentry Winters, who taught at SJSU from 1931 to 1970, established an endowment that provides graduate scholarships and purchases history books for the SJSU Library in the field of California history.
"Professor Winters' generous bequest has made it possible for us to reward the accomplishments of six of our outstanding graduate students," said E. Bruce Reynolds, who chairs the history department. "These annual awards are a constant reminder of her devotion to this institution and this department."
Five of the students will receive $1,000 each. One student, Paul Boisvert, was selected to receive the top scholarship award of $2,000. The graduate history students selected as this year's recipients, and their home towns, are:
Paul Boisvert, Los Gatos; Laura Avedisian, Yosemite; Robert Cirivilleri, Campbell; Jim Conway, Salinas; Heather Morris, San Jose; and Robert Thomas, Pacifica.
